Lexington Parks & Recreation’s golf program, also known as Play Golf Lex, has received high praise from the national and state Professional Golf Association (PGA) for its exceptional junior programming, youth development, and merchandising efforts. Mayor Linda Gorton and the city council recently commended the team for their achievements during a Council Work Session.

Mayor Gorton expressed her pride in the program, stating, “We take a lot of pride in offering great facilities and programs at our golf courses. Golf, which has seen a lot of growth in popularity recently, is an important part of our recreational offerings through Parks & Recreation. We are extremely proud of John, Whitney, and our entire golf team for their continued efforts in innovation, service, and offering great programming for our community.”

John Dickson, the Junior Golf Manager, has played a pivotal role in the program's success, overseeing junior golf developmental programming, including the department’s PGA Jr. League and Golf & Recreation Camps. Under his leadership, the PGA Jr. League has been recognized as one of the top 25 programs in the country in 2022 and 2023, ranking #1 in Kentucky in 2023.

Whitney Paul, the Head Golf Professional at Kearney Hill Golf Links, has also been instrumental in the program's achievements. She has excelled in researching new and unique goods, managing operations at the golf course, and enhancing the overall golfing experience for players of all ages and skill levels.

Monica Conrad, Director of Lexington Parks & Recreation, expressed her pride in the team, saying, “We could not be prouder of Whitney and John for their excellent work and well-deserved recognition. Our team is dedicated to excellent service and offering programs and play for all ages and skill levels. I hope our expanded offerings continue to inspire people to grab some friends and give golf a try.”
