Lexington's Mayor, Linda Gorton, in collaboration with several community partners, has revealed plans for the upcoming Clean Slate Lexington Expungement Clinic and Job Fair. Scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, at the Central Bank Center, the event aims to provide residents with the opportunity to expunge qualifying misdemeanors and felonies from their criminal records.

Mayor Gorton expressed the significance of these clinics, stating, "Our Clean Slate Lexington Expungement Clinics have been widely attended, and have been proven to open new doors to many in our community." She highlighted how expungement can eliminate barriers to various aspects of life such as voting, employment, education, and housing.

Tiffany Brown, the City’s Equity and Implementation Officer, emphasized the goal of Clean Slate Lexington in assisting individuals who have faced challenges accessing basic needs due to past criminal convictions. Brown stressed the event's focus on promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity across workplaces, communities, and educational institutions.

Robert Johns, the Executive Director of Legal Aid of the Bluegrass, commended Lexington's commitment to second chances, stating, “Everyone deserves a second chance, and the expungement of criminal records can provide that second chance for folks to have opportunities for better housing, jobs, and education.”

Heather Dieffenbach from the Lexington Public Library highlighted the collaborative nature of the Clean Slate Expungement Clinic and Job Fair, underscoring the involvement of numerous employers willing to offer opportunities to individuals with prior justice involvement.

Employers will be present at the event to conduct job interviews, and workforce programs like WORK-Lexington and the Kentucky Career Center will also be accessible to attendees. Registration and a background check are mandatory for those interested in participating in the event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 30 at the Central Bank Center.

In addition to the expungement clinic, the article mentions that the spring mulch giveaway for Lexington residents is scheduled for April 20, and updates on sanitary sewer construction progress at the intersection of Gainesway Drive and Greentree Road have been provided.
